  10. This archive contains the exclusive release of Kara's "D-Space9"
  11. AnimFont!
  12.  
  13. The font was originally scheduled for release by Kara and by Cloanto as
  14. part of a future version 3.0 of The Kara Collection CD-ROM. Amiga events
  15. however took a different direction, so that this AnimFont is now
  16. released for free.

  23. Being involved with the Amiga has been an experience that I shall never
  24. forget. I have met so many wonderful people that I often find myself
  25. reminescing about those "Amiga" days. I do miss the people and hope that
  26. I will see them again.

  28. I am also glad to have found homes for so many of my fonts and software
  29. packages. I thank all of you that were such loyal customers and to those
  30. who will make use of these downloads in the future, I hope that you will
  31. enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed in making them.

  40. THE KARA COLLECTION CD-ROM
  41.  
  42. It took 10 years of hard work to create the superb art which is contained
  43. on this CD-ROM. The Kara Collection includes all packages previously
  44. published by Kara Computer Graphics for the Amiga, plus many more, in an
  45. exclusive and professional edition reorganized and enhanced by Cloanto.
  46.  
  47. This CD-ROM contains 80 ColorFonts (including effects like brick, glass,
  48. chrome, chisel, etc.), 5 AnimFonts (handwriting, rotating characters,
  49. static wipes, sparkles, etc.), hundreds of alternate color palettes,
  50. Starfields (moving stars seen from different perspectives), Plaquegrounds
  51. (backgrounds such as granite, marble, sand-stone, wood, etc.), and
  52. software for special effects in pictures, animations, titling and
  53. presentations. All items for solo or combined use.
  54.  
  55. The Kara Collection also includes two software packages developed by
  56. Cloanto to manage bitmapped fonts: ColorType for color fonts and the
  57. Personal Fonts Maker for black and white fonts. Both have been acclaimed
  58. as the best in their respective fields.

  60. To make AnimFonts really easy and enjoyable to use, we created an ARexx
  61. program for Personal Paint, which renders any string of characters into
  62. animated text. As Kara says, "So long to the laborious task of placing
  63. individual letters... This is the way AnimFonts were meant to be!!!"

  68. For this free release the contents of The Kara Collection CD-ROM has
  69. been split in seven archives, grouped by contents:

  74.    - The Kara Collection: Plaquegrounds
  75.    - The Kara Collection: StarFields

  79. The CD-ROM version includes additional 200+ MB of data which it would
  80. not have been practical to include in this online distribution. The
  81. missing parts consist of:
  82.  
  83.    - Plaquegrounds in 24-bit and 256-color IFF formats (the online
  84.      version includes 24-bit JPEG and 16-color IFF versions)
  85.  
  86.    - Duplicates of Plaquegrounds organized by style (in the online
  87.      version they are grouped by material only)
  88.  
  89.    - ColorFonts format conversions for Broadcast Titler by InnoVision
  90.      Technology, and PowerTitler and X-Titler by ClassX
  91.  
  92.    - Cloanto Personal Paint, ColorType and Personal Fonts Maker
  93.      software (all titles are available as separate, free downloads)

  95.    - Personal Paint tutorial and example animations. These are also
  96.      available separately.

  98. The "Surprise" archive includes a special item which has never been
  99. released before.

  102. INSTALLATION
  103.  
  104. The original CD-ROM included a complex installation program to install
  105. different combinations of components, and even upgrade Personal Paint if
  106. necessary. For this online distribution the different sets of data have
  107. been isolated into directories that can easily be copied with the mouse.
  108. The latest version of Personal Paint has in the meantime become freely
  109. available. The original documentation also included hyperlinks to
  110. executable programs on the CD, which in turn would launch some slideshows
  111. and tutorials stored on the CD. While some of these links will not work
  112. in this version (because for example the tutorial animations have been
  113. split from this distribution), the "KaraCD.guide" launcher simulates
  114. some of the Assign and other commands which were used on the CD-ROM
  115. version, and is able to create on the fly a configuration able to run
  116. most batch files linked to in the documentation.

  118. The only two packages that require extra care during installation are
  119. ColorFonts and AnimFonts, since they need to be automatically
  120. accessible from other programs.
  121.  
  122. ColorFonts can be installed in the system "FONTS:" path. If they are
  123. used only with Personal Paint, they can be installed inside
  124. "PPaint:fonts". The Font requester of Personal Paint includes a button
  125. which makes it easy to switch from the system fonts directory to the
  126. local one. The following is a sample Shell installation for Personal
  127. Paint:

  132. While AnimFonts can be used with a variety of programs, as is explained
  133. in detail in the documentation, Personal Paint includes a dedicated
  134. Rexx script (AnimText.pprx) which makes it very easy to create
  135. animated texts using AnimFonts. The script needs the .data files which
  136. are provided with each AnimFont. The following procedure can be used to
  137. install all AnimFonts for use in Personal Paint:
